Differently
Life is messy, beautiful, demanding, and full of moments that can leave us spinning. The hardest part of leading your life? Leading yourself.
This podcast is about doing it differently. It’s about pausing long enough to question the stories running in your head, and creating small shifts that make a big difference in how you show up every day.
Each week, Carla shares real stories, fresh perspectives, and simple tools to help you see your life through a new lens. Think of it as a space to exhale, get honest, and pick up practical ideas you can actually use.
We can’t control everything that comes our way—but we can choose how we move through it. Differently is here to help you do just that.

Playing Offense
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
When the world around us feels unsettling, it’s easy to slip into defense mode, bracing and preparing for what might go wrong. Preparation is good. But what if it could be life giving and leave you feeling more equipped?
What would be possible if you played offense instead of defense?
Today’s episode is an invitation to think about what’s happening around you in a new and different way.

From Fear To Reframing
SPEAKER_00A deep change in the way that we live requires a deep change in the way that we think. I'm Carla Reeves, and this is differently. This episode today is for you. If you are or have been feeling a little stressed, fearful, or filled with uncertainty about our future, you're not alone, my friend. And I think many of us feel this way, including me. And the key is, I think, in this particular time is to be aware of the impact it has on you in your precious life, um, staying in fear. Because there's so much impact when you stay in fear. I'm not going to describe all of that because I know that you probably know it, like I do. And maybe you've been sensing God trying to get your attention. And maybe even that feels a little uncertain about what to do with that. If this is new to you, I have been here too. I don't talk directly about my faith a lot on this podcast, but I want to speak to it today because of the incredible peace that it has brought and continues to bring to my life. Religion has repelled so many people away, including myself, during an earlier season of my life. But I could never deny the experience of God that I had over and over and over again from the time of being a little girl. And over the past couple of years, I think it was a couple of years ago, I heard something that really changed how I saw it all. Somebody said, Jesus didn't come to make Christians, He came to invite us into a kingdom. And that is the truth that I see now and experience now. And what's even better is that as believers, we have access to every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm to walk through these hard things and hard times on this earth. And if you haven't already, you know, considered that or thought of that or experienced that, isn't that exciting or intriguing? Like something you want to move closer to, something you want to consider, something you might ask God to show you or reveal to you. If there was ever a time, my friend, it's now. While the world invites us to be distracted by all the scary news, the scary weather we have had, and all the other worldly things that are happening. I, contrary to what your mind is going to want to tell you, this is when you want to increase the priority on doing things that calm your mind, that center you, that ground you, that remind you of who you are and what you're up to. Those things become more and more important. I work with clients who come in to coaching really often paralyzed by their own thoughts and fear. And I recently had a client discover in her journal that she was playing defense in her life instead of offense. That just really struck me. One, I got really excited by the idea that yes, that's what I teach people to do all these years. I've been teaching people to play offense in their lives. And so, how about you, friend? Are you playing defense or offense? What would it look like to play more offense in your life? I can tell you for me what that looks like. It looks like fighting for the light, fighting to for my marriage. It looks like, and I use the word fighting, but I don't really mean that energetically, fighting, but like really standing for, standing for the light, seeking the light, turning towards the light, posturing my heart to the light, and posturing and standing and seeking to stay in the light when there's a lot of darkness around. It looks like um spending a weekend this last week, I had a lot of nervous energy and I had a lot, also had a lot of just loose ends. And so we decided to make the weekend about completing loose ends around our home. And that was so incredibly helpful to just close the loop, complete projects, um, get rid of clutter in the house. We have a guest coming, and that's always a good reason to do that. Dusting, deeper cleaning to free up energy that I can pour into my family, into my marriage, into my clients. We don't realize it, but these little incompletions in our lives often rob our mood and energy without us even realizing it. And so you may, your mind may want to tell you like, how could you be doing that when there's terrible things going on in the world? But often we can't control a lot of what is happening in the world, but we can control our own environment, both our external environment and our internal environment. And that can make such a profound impact on your own energy, the wake that you leave behind you as you're navigating relationships and working on projects and working with colleagues. That has such a positive impact when you take care of your own space internally and externally. So it can look like filling my mind with thoughts and visions that I can turn myself towards, aim towards, align my actions towards instead of letting the world do that for me. How about you, friend? What would offense in your life look like today? Grab your journal and explore this for yourself. This is a really great prompt to just take right into your notebook. And if you need a journal or a guide to help you get started, grab a copy of the Differently journal for yourself. There's a link in the show notes. Get one for a friend too while you're at it. I am holding the possibility and envisioning a journal on every nightstand to help people walk in this world. God met me on the pages of my journal 20 plus years ago, continues to do that today, and God wants to meet you there too.
